Out of blue those lyrics came to me clear as a bell. I often have songs come to mind that mean something to me, lift my spirit, or sometimes perplex me. I don't really know why that Motown classic just came to mind, but it got me thinking. Where do I run to when things are crazy, out of control, depressing, overwhelming...should I keep going? I would love to say that I always run to Jesus. If I said that I would be lying. Truth be told, I often run to that trusted family member or friend to "bounce" the idea or concern off of them. Once that is done, we both have the burden, but the problem still remains. I'm not saying that it is a bad thing to seek out counsel, but what would happen if I poured out my concerns to Jesus instead of another human? Would my stress level remain high? Would I feel better? Would my problem be solved?

How do I talk to Jesus about this stuff? Prayer is supposed to be a quiet time of reverence, right? There are times when quiet solitude is necessary. We see Jesus going off by himself to pray often (Mark 1:35 and Luke 5:16 to name a couple). However, there are also times when he prays right where he is in the midst of lots of people as part of a conversation with the Father (Luke 11). Jesus is our example of how humans interact with God. Jesus is our bridge to relationship with God. So, let's follow His example.

We can run to him and to God when we are in trouble or need to unburden ourselves. We DO have somewhere to run! (Psalm 61:3)
