Who am I?

Ever asked that question? Who am I? Plenty of people have. Plenty of people do. Plenty of people will. It is a universal question, and a universal concern.

Why do we ask that question? Why do we not know who we are, or think we don't know who we are? Many times we feel displaced and out of sorts. We feel insignificant. We think we are overlooked and underappreciated. In the culture that we live in, being overlooked and under appreciated is certainly a possibility.

However, that is not how God thinks of us, or wants us to think of ourselves! God promises us that we are significant to Him. We are so significant to Him that He knows the number of hairs on our heads (Luke 12:7). He sees us just as he saw Hagar in the desert (Genesis 16:13).

He made us each unique, and sometimes that makes it difficult to find our place this side of Heaven. We strive so hard to figure out where we belong in our career, in our hobbies, in our studies, in our places of worship. I for one, am so intent on following the path God wants me to be on, that sometimes I over analyze the whole situation and turn it into analysis by paralysis instead of trusting God and depending on His leading.

There are a few things, though, that I think help us to narrow our focus. There are tools that help us figure out our personality, spiritual gifts, and strengths that God gave us to live our lives with purpose and in turn lead us to be more fulfilled in our day to day lives and careers.

I know this isn't the fanciest way to present these to you, but I'm just going to list them with a quick note about each one for you to check out. (I am not receiving any kind of affiliation payment or referral payment for any of these.)

Spiritual Gifts Inventory - Identify your God-given spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12)

DISC Profile - Assessment to help you identify your personality, communication style, and behavioral style

Strengths Finder - Gallup assessment to help you identify your strengths and how it relates to your life

Enneagram - Learn how you are wired and how you interconnect with others

At one time or another, I've taken all of these assessments. I find them very helpful to see myself clearly, and to help me adjust to move toward the direction God is calling me. Of course, it doesn't take the place of prayer and listening to Holy Spirit, but it does help me to see through the dim mirror that comes with life on earth (1 Corinthians 13:12).

If you are feeling a little bit out of sorts, or curious just who God made you to be, I encourage you to do some investigating with these tools, and take a deep dive into Scripture and prayer to really figure out who you are and where God is calling you!
